Local is lekker #MakingIt

KwaThema – Locals Bafana Msukwini, Sphiwe Msibi and Mshushisi Zondo have established their record label, Table Five Entertainment.

With so much talent in the community the aspirant music moguls saw fit to have a music academy where local artist are given the chance to thrive as artists and producers.

Being musicians themselves, they claim to know the challenges of being a new artist who needs exposure and a recording deal.

“We were once part of a kwaito group that struggled to get a mere recording deal, which pushed us to start our very own because of the lack of support we received from our community and music labels,” explains Msukwini.

Last year the trio began their quest to register and build their company, which has signed one artist this year who will be releasing an album in the coming months.

They believe having faced the challenges that most artists are facing they will do things differently, to ensure artists get the necessary exposure and respect in the community.

“We will ensure that artists get marketed well and are booked for gigs happening around Ekurhuleni.

“Many artists suffer because they don’t get booked for performances, which are crucial to introducing any musician in the market,” says Zondo.

Making use of local recording studios to record their artists’ songs Table Five is serious about supporting local business and putting artists from Ekurhuleni at the forefront.

They draw inspiration from recording stables such as Kalawa Jazzme which was started decades ago by musicians who were passionate about the local genre of kwaito, which they promoted successfully.

“Our aim is to uplift music underdogs so they may have their fair share of fame as musicians because musicians aren’t only limited to commercial music.

“Currently we are focusing on kwaito, hip-hop and house artists and in future we would like to branch out to other genres,” Zondo says.
