Nurses encouraged to go back to basics

Tsakane - Pholosong Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day last Friday on May 13.

This annual event, which officially takes place on May 12, serves as a chance for nurses all over the world to celebrate their profession and reflect on challenges they face in their career.

Nursing staff at the hospital came together, dressed in white, under the theme ‘A Force for Change: Improving Systems and Resilience’, which emphasised a need to go back to the basics of nursing.

“As nurses we must bounce back and return to the basics of nursing standards.

“I appeal to you to always be professional and apply the nursing principles as stated by the International Nursing Council, in your daily work,” encouraged nursing manager at the hospital, Sr Fikile Mabuza as she addressed her colleagues.

She further urged nurses to live up to the intentions of Florence Nightingale of caring, showing love and commitment to the profession.

During the day’s festivities, the nurses also lit candles and reaffirmed their commitment to always work to better the lives of the people in the community.
