Tsakane gets service delivery

Tsakane - A major road is under construction in Extension 19 in Tsakane.

The road, which will ease traffic on Sibongiseni Road, is estimated to be completed by June.

According to Ward Councillor Silas Letsimo, the construction phase started in March and has afforded 10 local labourers employment.

This road was designed years back with the aim of connecting the three townships that make up Kwatsaduza to major roads and highways.

“This is just the beginning. The road will link motorists travelling from Tsakane and Duduza straight to the N17 and the N3 highways once it’s completed.

“The project is part of the transport integration project that aims to make public transport accessible to community members,” adds the councillor.

In the past there would be traffic on Sibongiseni Street due to taxis and motorist using the road to get to and from Tsakane and Duduza.

The road construction at Extension 19 is just one of the many projects happening in Ward 84.

Letsimo further elaborates the plans of more road construction to take place in the financial year of 2016/17. A massive project to construct roads in RDP areas in his ward is in the pipeline.

He mentions that they are currently busy with road construction in Extension 12B and will soon move to Extension 17.

“Road construction is very important in our community to improve service delivery to the people.

“Lack of tarred roads hinders emergency service and SAPS from reaching community members in informal settlement because the vehicles are unable to manoeuvre.

“That is why in most cases criminals target such areas because they know it will prove hard for law enforcers to catch them,” he says.
