Community educated on drug and substance abuse

KwaThema – A drug and substance awareness campaign was hosted by Christ the Rock Bible Church in Extension Two on Sunday.

This initiative was held to enlighten youth and parents more on the dangers of substance abuse and how parents should participate in their children’s lives.

“Our motivational speakers who are both ex-drug offenders, founder of Movement for Change Organisation Musa Zwane and Lehlohonolo Kutoane who is the founder of Youth on the Move, both spoke about their experiences.

“They also warned youth that it is best to stay away from drugs as they can be dangerous and some people die from them while they further advised parents that if their children are drug users, they must agree to getting help so that they can be helped and change their ways,” says Pastor John Mahlangu.

Parents were also encouraged to support their children in good times and in bad.

“It is hard to leave drugs but only God can help to get rid of the temptation.

“Keep with the right crowd and associate yourself with positive people to help you reach your destiny because you can come from the right background but your friends can help to ruin your life,” says Kutoane.

Constable Thembi Mabote from the EMPD was also present to address the congregation.

She spoke on the mediums present to help parents know more about drugs, the importance of them being involved in their children’s lives and schoolwork and showing concern for their children.

On the other hand senior Pastor Richard Mkholwa encouraged youth and parents to be mindful of the words they speak, having the proper attitude, having positive thoughts and being cautious of the company young people keep.
