Law enforcement hunts for suspects, who shot at EMPD officer

Tsakane – On Monday morning, April 25, at around 10am an EMPD Intervention Unit member was attacked on Cornwell Street, in Langaville Extension Five, Tsakane.

This came after he had stopped a suspicious-looking white Toyota Corolla with three male occupants in Tsakane.

The officer was requesting the driver of the vehicle to produce a driver’s licence, when the boot suddenly opened and a person pointed what looked like an AK47 and started shooting, explains EMPD spokesman Wilfred Kgasago.

“The attacked officer managed to escape death and ran to save his life leaving behind his idling BMW patrol vehicle.

“The assailants then drove away with the patrol car which they abandoned a kilometre away along Vlakfontein Road.

“Backup that included a SAPS chopper and K9 Unit members arrived five minutes after the shooting,” says Kgasago.

He adds that the area was fine-combed but the perpetrators and their vehicle could not be located.

The hunt still continues to apprehend those responsible for the crime and a case was registered at the Tsakane Police Station.
