EMPD apprehends hijackers who shot man in chest

Kwatsaduza – Two men were arrested for attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday.

This comes after a man residing in Duduza was, in March, shot in the chest during the hijacking of his white Opel Corsa vehicle, though fortunately he managed to survive the attack.

“A week after the attack, while the victim was still in bandages, he sighted one of his assailants and informed the metro police.

“Investigations carried out and information gathered pointed to the suspect as being part of a group of men from Duduza, Tsakane, Geluksdal and Reiger Park involved in vehicle hijackings in Kwatsaduza, Brakpan and Springs areas.

“After another week of surveillance conducted on the suspect, on April 25 the metro police were able to effectively arrest the 27-year-old in Tsakane and recovered a .22 pistol, two magazines and ammunition of a 9mm firearm,” shares EMPD spokesman, Wilfred Kgasago.

The accused was then charged with attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm at the Tsakane Police Station.

Kgasago adds that the arrested suspect then pointed out his accomplice, who was later arrested on the same day in Langaville near Tsakane.

“The EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) members are working around the clock, in search of the missing 9mm firearm that is suspected to be the weapon used in the Duduza hijacking in March, as well as the other members of this group,” he says.
