KwaThema learners join Fees Must Fall Campaign

KwaThema - On Thursday, at around 10am, several students, allegedly from the Pholong and Nkumbulo Secondary Schools and demanding that fees must fall, invaded various schools in the area in an effort to force other learners to join them in the march.

“Lefa-Ifa High School classes were briefly disrupted by the protesting learners,” says EMPD spokesperson, Wilfred Kgasago.

“The arrival of the EMPD First Responder and Public Order Policing Units, coupled with Lefa-Ifa Secondary school students not keen in joining the march, forced the protesters to move to other schools.

“Their next stop was Kenneth Masekela High School, where their efforts to force the learners to join them in the march also failed.”

Kgasago adds that, in frustration, the aggressive learners knocked down the perimeter palisade fencing, but several windows were also smashed.

“Eventually, at around 3pm, the rioting fizzled out and the situation normalised.”

No arrests were made and no reports of injuries were received.
