Man of many talents #MakingIt

KwaThema - Topnoche executive Sibusiso Ngwenya (28) has successfully managed to turn his love of music into a profitable business for himself.

Working as music promoter, publisher and an events coordinator, Ngwenya opted to stop being a kwaito artist to run Topnoche Entertainment, a business he opened in 2011.

“After completing my matric, I knew I wanted to become a musician, so I partnered with a friend and that is where my journey began, but, due to some issues, we ended up having to separate,” he says.

“I enjoyed singing as a kwaito artist and writing my own songs, but then decided to put that on hold to focus on the business aspect of my career, as a promoter, publisher and event coordinator.”

Ngwenya admits that running such a business has had its fair share of trials, but confidently says he is happy that, due to his perseverance, things are finally coming together.

“The challenges one faces as a young person in business relate to capital and the fact that, if you are not known in this industry, people don’t take you seriously,” he explains.

“I did not, however, let that stop me.

”I’m a risk taker and ensure that I make things happen; as a result I have been able to chalk up numerous accomplishments, including signing a local hip-hop artist, working as his manager and helping to promote him.

“Another direction I’ve also taken is that I am now writing music for other artists, so that my music can still live on.”

Though the picture of where he sees his business in the future may not be clear now, Ngwenya says he just wants to see himself as a millionaire in the next two years.

He also encourages locals to look out for the upcoming annual, second KwaThema Laugh out Loud Comedy Show, set to take place in August.
