Mayor to report to the people

Kwatsaduza – It is time again for Ekurhuleni Mayor Clr Mondli Gungubele to deliver his annual State of the City address.

This will be done next week, at the Tsakane Stadium, at 10am, where the speech will be the mayor’s last for this term of office, from 2011 to date.

According to mayoral spokesman Zweli Dlamini, this will be the mayor’s final address before the elections in August.

“When this administration took office in 2011, the people gave us a mandate to among others improve their socio-economic conditions.

“It is therefore proper that we account on this mandate and inform our voters on what we were able to do, where we are, where we are going and what challenges we have experienced in the past five years,” Dlamini said.

He adds that with each year, they have reported back through annual progress reports to the public, however this is the grand finale where people can expect a detailed five-year report.

“The mayor will anchor his speech on the five imperatives of the city’s Growth and Development Strategy (GDS) 2055, which outlines what the metro must do to become a delivering city by 2020, capable city by 2030 and sustainable city by 2055.

“These imperatives include re-urbanising to achieve sustainable urban integration, re-industrialising to achieve job-creating economic growth, re-governing to achieve effective co-operative governance, re-generating to achieve environmental well-being and re-mobilising to achieve social empowerment.

“The view of the mayor is that five years on, we can no longer be articulating dreams of 2011 but rather need to deliver a tangible service delivery report that gives hope to everyone in the society regardless of their standard of living, race or creed,” concludes Dlamini.
