Police investigate 4+1 stolen taxis

KwaThema – Two 4+1 taxis were allegedly stolen from a yard in Masanabo Street in KwaThema Extension Two, in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to police spokesman W/O David Mphali, last Friday a 4+1 taxi owner reported that at about 6.05am he had received a call from one of his drivers who told him that the vehicle he drives was not in the yard where it is usually parked.

“The complainant says he then went to the yard where the taxis are normally parked, only to find that two of his 4+1 taxis were missing.

Mphali said the one vehicle is a blue Mazda 323 with registration number PFN 383 GP, while the other vehicle is also a Mazda 323, only white, with registration number YWR 018 GP.

“When the taxi owner questioned the owner of the yard, he said that at about 4am, he had opened the yard for the two drivers as usual and then went to sleep. However at 6am when he woke up again, the vehicles had been stolen,” says Mphali.

The police have opened a case of theft of motor vehicles and are investigating further. The vehicles have not been recovered and no arrests have been made.

Mphali advises drivers to be more vigilant and for owners to beef up the security on their vehicles, as it seems as though the crimes of 4+1 taxis being hijacked or stolen from the yards is on the rise.
