Seven armed suspects break in, hide and wait for staff to arrive for work

KwaThema – Seven armed men robbed staff members at the KwaThema Sports Complex swimming pool on Monday.

Police spokesperson W/O David Mphali says that, at about 8.45am, the robbers broke the lock pads of the gates and the reception area to the swimming pool and went in.

“We suspect that the men then hid themselves until the staff arrived.

“It is also unclear if the general workers and the security guards did not notice the broken lock pads or the armed men at stage.

“As the four staff members arrived at work, the suspects demanded the keys to the safe, as they wanted to pool entrance money which had been collected over the weekend, but, since the person with the keys was not there, their original attempt failed,” says Mphali.

He adds that the suspects then searched the employees and took one laptop, cellphones and an undisclosed amount of money.

No was injured, but a case of business robbery has been opened and the police are still hunting down the seven men, judged to be between 30 to 34 years old.
