Youngsters bring about positive change

KwaThema - Seeing the challenges faced by many young local artists to break into the industry has motivated a group of six youngsters to put their best foot forward and work hard to bridge the gap so their peers can have a fair chance and opportunities.

The group comprising Siphamandla Nkosi, Sipho Motsweni, Kagiso Motlhabi, Frank Mosehla, Prince Zwane and Kamogelo Taha created Sharpvisualarts, which they describe as an agency that deals with arts on the East Rand.

The one-stop shop set up by this dynamic group assists upcoming models, photographers, comedians and artists with the shooting of music videos and organises events hosted by artists.

“We opted to open a close cooperation mid February and have already worked on a couple of projects to help local artists.

“Since the business is also still new, we have some projects that we have planned for to promote visual arts in the township and all the other forms of art that we look into.

“Our reason for working as an agency is our love for the arts, and so we can help young artists pursue their dreams, as we want famous production companies to think of us and our area first, before going off to other areas, as things normally take time to happen here,” says Motsweni.

Within the group lies a variety of talent as the team boasts photographers, a comedian, an editor, a writer and actors, among others.

The six see great potential in what they want to accomplish in the future, as they are confident that locals are ready for what they have to offer.

“The major challenge we are faced with is that as a new business, we still lack funding and sponsors, while the equipment we need is quite expensive.

“After coming up with some proposals we are working on, we are hoping to get the help we need so we can put KwaThema on the map.

“In addition to this, since most of us have not formally studied for what we are doing, it would be great to get people who have more experience in these fields to help guide us,” adds Motlhabi.

The team’s future is definitely looking bright. They also plan on building a studio, doing local productions and helping as many young people locally get into the market to further their dreams.
