Law enforcement officers warn criminals

Duduza - A 57-year-old man was arrested at Mqashi Section after being found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Monday.

According to Duduza police spokesman, W/O Imtiaz Yakub Rasoo, the members of the EMPD Community Liaison Unit (CLU) and the SAPS Springs Cluster Crime Information Gathering Unit (CIGU) followed up on information received from an informer.

“The officers, at around 5.25pm, found the red Polo indicated, identified themselves to the man standing by the car and requested to search him.

“During the search they discovered a 9mm pistol in his trousers and on closer inspection noticed the serial number and manufacturer branding had been filed off.

“They immediately arrested the suspect and escorted him to Duduza SAPS where he was detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” he says.

The acting station commander of Duduza SAPS, Capt Mackson Nyaku, has expressed his praise for the members involved from the EMPD and the SAPS units for their professional and dedicated actions that resulted in this success.

He says that this success should serve as a warning to would-be criminals, that they will be apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

He adds that this conviction is in line with the national and provincial strategies of the SAPS.

The suspect will soon appear at the Nigel Court for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
