Community empowered through skills

Delmas – Last Friday 110 community members graduated from the EnviroServ Waste Management and Hydro Training College after completing a course in poultry farming.

Graduates included community members of KwaThema and Daveyton.

The graduation ceremony was held at the Delmas Country Lodge where dignitaries such as the Ward Clr Vusi Buda, group technical director Esme Gombault and group marketing director Delia Lavarinhas were present to witness the festivities.

EnviroServ partnered with the college in order to up-skill locals to ensure skills development takes place in the community.

Present at the graduation ceremony were representatives of Hydro Training College, an accredited training provider that offers AgriSeta accredited theoretical and practical training.

The training covered animal reproduction, business management, entrepreneurial skills, marketing and project management.

The training is unit-based, in line with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and the Agricultural Sector Education Training Authority (AgriSeta) regulations.

Group training manager Neville Moopanar says the project’s aim is to enable unemployed people from local communities to establish themselves in a viable farming business through effective skills training, mentoring and project management.

“The project has seen a number of success stories.

“EnviroServ was motivated to start this project in order to contribute towards alleviating poverty and promoting sustainable economic development in the country,” says Moopanar.
