Showing some love to senior citizens

Daveyton – Young people from the Rivers of Living Waters Ministries in Springs under Archbishop Steven Zondo visited elders of the Daveyton Old Age Home.

The purpose of Saturday’s visit was to spend time with the elderly and to donate a voucher and some basic essentials to them.

The youth opened the celebration with a prayer, scripture and sharing of the word before handing over the donation.

“When we asked the staff what they need, they spoke about toiletries for the elderly, so instead of buying that, we took money out of our own pockets and opted to get a voucher so that they could buy exactly what they need.

“We also decided to spend some time with the senior citizens just so they know that we love them and that the community has not forgotten about them since they are in a home.

“Throughout the year we will be going around other areas to donate where it is needed,” said Matumelo Tjabadi, one of the youth leaders.

Mojalefa Mohautse added that what they are doing is God’s work and in line with God’s word.

“We are here because we believe that there is more happiness in giving than in receiving, and this is our way of showing some love to our elderly people.

“We also thank the staff for allowing us to come here,” he said.

A worker at the home, Stephina Mathunyane, thanked the youth for their time and donation, saying they are grateful for this and need more people like these young people.

“Though it might seem little to them, it is very big to us, so may the good Lord abundantly bless them all,” she said.
