The food lover’s corner

KwaThema – To curb the issue of unemployment, four locals came together and opened a food joint at the corner of Thema and Mtsugi streets, specialising in African cuisine.

One of the owners, Thokozani Dludlu, says Mocca Vitross Corner was launched on June 16, 2014 and officially opened two days later.

“For a long time I had just been a housewife who did some odd jobs here and there, but it had always been my dream to open a business like this one.

“This was because I had always had a love for people and food. So before my husband passed away I had spoken to him about doing this,” she says.

Dludlu adds that since her late husband had already spoken to his brother, Sipho Simelane, about this, they were able to partner in the business venture along with Muzi Nkosi and Thandeka Sikhosana.

The partners say that business has had its up and downs and that at first it was not easy, but they have enjoyed watching it grow.

The food joint offers a variety of modern and cultural, including chicken, beef stew, steak and wors, ox liver, ox heart, ox head and ‘isikobo’ (smiley).

“We realised that some of these foods were things that were not being sold in our area at the time, so we put them on our menu as we knew people loved them.

“Business always has its challenges, but we don’t regret taking this route and thank our customers who always support us.

“If you are looking at starting up a business, you must have a love for it, be patient and love people, as you have to provide a service to them.

“Also have capital so you don’t struggle much as you will need to find ways of boosting it when it goes down, and make it different so you stand out,” says Dludlu.
