Nhlangothi will be remembered

KwaThema - Mandla Nhlangothi died on February 11, after a short illness.

Nhlangothi was born June 12, 1944.

He obtained his secondary qualification at Kwa-Phakama Secondary School in KwaThema and pursued his teaching diploma at the University of Zululand, then known as Ongoye.

He commenced his teaching career at Tlakula High School from 1969 until 1977.

In 1978 he was seconded to establish Phutla (Phulong and Tlakula combined schools), which is today known as Kenneth Masekela High School.

Being an academic from a tender age, Nhlangothi furthered his studies and obtained a bachelor of arts from Unisa, a bachelor in education from Wits and a masters in public administration from the University of Pretoria.

The intellectual rigour he demonstrated in his career as a teacher did not go unnoticed by authorities in the education sector and in 1981 he was seconded as a principal at Esibonelo Esihle in Duduza.

He served as a chairperson of the Duduza Principals Council and later as a representative of the Nigel Circuit in the Regional Council for Education and Training.

In 1992 he began working as circuit manager of Kempton Park Circuit and the following year continued after being transferred to Benoni.

Nhlangothi served as an institutional development and support officer at the Ekurhuleni East District and later in the Gauteng East District until he retired in 2009.

A devout Christian, he served as a corps sergeant major and a member of the central division advisory board at the Salvation Army Church.

Nhlangothi remained a servant of God until he was called to his higher position.

He is survived by his wife Boniswa Nhlangothi, his six children and the Nhlangothi family.

The funeral service will take place at the Salvation Army Church in KwaThema at 8am.

Cortège will leave for the Brakpan Cemetery at 11am.
