Centre opens its doors to help those in need

Tsakane - Blessings Social Development Centre is inviting needy locals, who are really struggling to make ends meet, to visit their organisation so they can at least have a lunch meal every day during the week.

This non-profit organisation, situated in Tsakane, runs a nutrition programme for children and adults and, additionally, provides its beneficiaries with skills development and life skills.

“We arrived at this new location last year, but the challenge is that people are still not familiar with what we do, hence we want to communities in Kwatsaduza to know that they are welcome to visit us.

“At the moment the number of people who come to eat at the centre daily varies, hence, to ensure that we reach more people, we also go to a spot in Extension 19, where we feed more people, as the aim daily is to reach 250 people,” says centre manger Thokozani Mabunda.

He adds that they don’t cater for a particular age group, but people who go to the centre for help need to take along their ID documents, to be registered.

The staff will then do an interview with them, to create a profile, which will help them to check on the prospective beneficiaries’ circumstances before they becoming official members.

“We also welcome any donations of clothing and food, so that we can give them to our most needy beneficiaries, because some people have nothing,” Mabunda explains.

“At least, through the donations we get, we can make food parcels and clothing donations that we hand out to our beneficiaries.”

To ensure that beneficiaries are also able to provide for their families, the centre is inviting 10 volunteers who can assist with food gardening.

And, in other developments, as of Monday, the centre will start with exercise sessions for the senior citizens, which will run from 10am to 11am.
