Volunteers help local learners

KwaThema -Manakana Mabogoane Education Support Programme is providing free Saturday classes for English, mathematics and science to students in primary and high school level.

The programme has been in existence for the past eight years and is based at Qedusizi Primary School in KwaThema.

Secretary Melusi Mndebele says they are inviting volunteers who recognise the need to give back to the community by sharing skills and experiences with learners.

“People who want to be a part of our dedicated team of facilitators need not have a qualification in teaching or education.

“As long as they have an insight about the subject content and are passionate about helping young minds master their work,” says Mndebele.

He says workshops will be held to empower facilitators with essential teaching skills such as classroom management and lesson presentation.

“We have various extra-curricular activities such as motivational sessions, science day and educational tours for our learners,” he adds.

All learners are invited to be a part of the programme, provided they attend lessons diligently and do tasks that are required.

Parents are encouraged to support their children throughout the course of the programme, by attending parents’ meetings and being involved in the development of their skills.

Classes will commence on February 6, at Qedusizi Primary School in KwaThema.

Unfortunately registration for primary school learners has closed due to limited space but high school learners are still welcomed to register.
