KwaThema hostel killer sought

KwaThema – A 22-year-old man was shot and killed in the early hours of Sunday morning at the Ekuthuleni informal settlement near the KwaThema hostel.

KwaThema police spokesman, W/O David Mphali, says the incident took place at about 2.30am and according to their reports, the deceased was at a tavern nearby his home where people who were at the tavern, say he was drunk.

“He then allegedly assaulted a woman (age unknown) at the tavern, hitting her with a bottle on her head and she sustained some injury.

“The young man then left the tavern and moments later, some people say outside they heard people discussing for this man to be shot and in no time there were some gun shots fired.

“The deceased was shot two times in his upper body, not too far from the gathering place and though he tried to get away, he collapsed close to the scene,” he says.

Mphali adds that the man was declared dead on the spot where he fell, by paramedics.

Since the woman did not report any case at the police station, they are not sure what happened, where the woman is now or what kind of injuries she has sustained.

“At this point we are not sure if the deceased and the attacked woman knew each other.

“It is also still not known what happened to the woman after the incident and no arrests have been made.

“We are pleading with anyone from the community with information regarding this case to contact detective W/O Ernest Sithembiso Mkhize on 011 812 4600 / 4607.
