A woman woke up at 4am, and noticed a man in her house with a cellphone torch shining in the passage.
W/O David Mphali, KwaThema police spokesman, says the woman tried to stop the suspect, but he ordered her to keep quiet and go to her room.
After a while she realised it was quiet in the house and went to investigate.
Mphali says the woman was looking for her granddaughter (9) who was asleep in another room.
The woman was still looking for the child when she heard the girl screaming.
The girl screamed while running into the house from outside and informed her grandmother that she had been raped by the suspect.
The suspect allegedly abducted the girl and when they were outside ordered her to lie on the ground face down.
“After raping the child he ran away,” says Mphali.
The grandmother immediately phoned the police and the girl was taken to a nearby hospital to be examined.
A case of rape was opened at the police station.
