Two life sentences for rapist

Duduza – David Nkosi (26), from Duduza, has been convicted of two rapes, a robbery and two kidnappings.

He was sentenced to two terms of life imprisonment for the rapes.

Springs police spokesperson, Capt Johannes Ramphora, says Nkosi was sentenced at the Nigel Magistrate Court on Monday, after he was found guilty of kidnapping and raping a 25-year-old woman (in the first case).

“On May 13, 2013 at about 11pm at Blue Gum, Nkosi left a pub with the woman.

“The two went to Nkosi’s room at his home in Duduza where he raped her,” says Ramphora.

Nkosi received a five year sentence for kidnapping and a sentence of life imprisonment for rape.

Nkosi was further convicted for a second case which involved the robbery, kidnapping and rape of a 34-year-old woman.

“The second incident took place on March 6, 2014 at about 9.30pm in Nigel where the woman left a tavern to buy cigarettes.

“Two males followed her, threatend her with a knife, searched and robbed her of cash and a cellphone, then took her to an open veld and raped her.

“While the other suspect was able to get away, Nkosi was arrested on February 13 last year for the incident,” says Ramphora.

In the second case, Nkosi was sentenced to five years for robbery, five years for kidnapping and a life sentence for rape.
