Second chance for matrics

Kwatsaduza - As the class of 2015 received their results last Wednesday, some learners had done well while others had either failed or not done well enough.

For this reason, the Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, has introduced the Matric Second Chance Support Progamme to give learners a second chance to pass matric.

Motshekga says that the programme is to offer young people who failed to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC), a second chance to obtain their final school certificate.

“With this programme we aim to provide support to learners who have not met the requirements of the NSC. Learners who can go into the programme are those who qualify to write one or two subjects in the supplementary examinations in February and March, progressed learners writing the June examinations who did not pass or write all the subjects in last year’s exams and those who didn’t meet the requirements of the NSC.”

“The programme will be piloted this year and registration for participation will only be open to learners that attempted the NSC examinations in 2015; candidates who did not meet the NSC requirements post 2008 (excluding those of 2015) will only be able to participate in the programme in 2017,” Motshekga says.

The pilot programme this year will only offer support for maths, maths literacy, life science, physical science, geography, business studies and economics.
