No change for station

Duduza – It has been two months since the newly built Duduza Fire Station was damaged during a storm and still not much has changed.

Parts of the station that were damaged, are still not fixed and as a result, when it rains, water seeps in through the roof.

The staff then have to put dustbins to prevent the floors from flooding.

According to the Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Service (DEMS) spokesperson, William Ntladi, the marquee was blown away during strong winds, landing on the roof of the station after the owner was supposed to pick it up over the weekend after the opening but failed to do so.

DEMS is fully aware of the matter as far as damage on the fire station structure is concerned, caused by the strong wind that blew in Duduza on the Monday after the official opening on November 5.

“The matter is being taken care of by all relevant parties and all the stakeholders are constantly engaged in talks to reach an amicable solution on the subject.

“As far as operational matters are concerned, fortunately enough we are experiencing minimal rain fall for now, which affects the station’s preparedness minimally,” he says.

Ntladi adds that the damage to the roof sheeting has been temporarily taken care of and subsequently the station’s operations are minimally affected.
