Man arrested for kidnapping and rape

KwaThema – A 25-year-old man has been arrested for the alleged rape and kidnapping of a 22-year-old woman.

According to the KwaThema police spokesman, David Mphali, the woman was walking with a 24-year-old male friend on Matlapeng Street in Rest in Peace when the incident occurred.

“The two were walking from a pub at about 1.45am on Saturday, when they came across a man in a Ford Figo who demanded that the girl enter the car.

“The male friend then reported the alleged kidnapping to the girl’s family and police, where a case of kidnapping was opened as he thought the girl had been taken by strangers.

“When the girl was dropped off at her home later that morning, she told her parents that the accused slept with her, then the parents went to the police station to open a case of rape,” says Mphali.

He adds that they are not yet sure if the driver of the vehicle is actually the boyfriend of the girl or not, but the two seem to know each other.

The accused was later arrested, however, the police are still continuing with the investigation.

Mphali says the accused will appear in the Springs Magistrate Court soon.
