Donate old schoolbags

If a child's school case is still in a good condition it doesn't have to be thrown away.

Aside from buying new text books, stationery and uniforms parents don’t always have the money to buy a new school bag at the beginning of every school year.

A quick wash and clean will leave the bag looking brand new and ready to use for a new school year.

The slightly damaged or old bag can be donated to organisations where children will gladly accept the “old” bag.

If the zipper does not run as smoothly as before or if it is completely broken, a seamstress or upholsterer can easily replace it.

“Running a foster home, you depend on donations even for school necessities,” says Marlene Minnie, founder of Potters Haven.

She says there is no funding to buy school clothes, stationery, school shoes and school bags, therefore these homes depend on the community for their support.

“The children are always grateful when they at least have the necessary stationery, school bags or clothes to go to school.

There is a need at any welfare organisation for “old” bags and clothes to be donated.

Donating is ideal when parents buy branded school bags because it was part of the schools requirements and the child has left the school but the bag is still in an excellent condition.

While the children are still at school, there are ways to brighten up the old school bag by using an iron-on transfer which will give it a new look.

This is a quick and easy way to give new life to a child’s old school bag.
