Keep your money safe this festive season

During the festive season, most people do their Christmas shopping; a lot of locals also visit the ATM or enter a bank and withdraw huge sums of money, without noticing who may be following or paying attention to them.

It is, however, imperative to ensure that you keep safe, especially when going to or from the ATM or bank, and while you are at the machine.

• Try to go to the bank or ATM with someone you can trust.
• Do not expose your bank card to criminals, as you might become a target.
• Always keep your pin safe and cover the buttons when entering your pin number at the ATM.
• Don’t withdraw large sums of money, rather do cash transfers.
• After withdrawing money, make sure no one is following you.
• Make sure you know your bank’s emergency numbers, in case you experience trouble at the ATM or your card is swallowed by the machine.
• Avoid going to withdraw money after hours, as some ATMs may be dark and you are an easy goal for thieves.
• If possible, avoid withdrawing money and, instead, rather swipe your card or do internet banking.
