New roofs for residents of KwaThema

KwaThema – After years of requesting new roofs, residents of Overline Section in KwaThema are delighted with the new zinc roofs being erected on their houses.

The roofing project started on Monday and will see 20 houses get new zinc roofs before the end of December.

The project was made possible by the executive committee of Overline who say that, since the 90s, the roofs of the residents have never been maintained and are in poor condition.

Chairperson of the executive committee, Sebaba Masemola, says most of the houses in the area have rusted roofs, which leak and allow dust inside.

The fact that most residents living in the area are unemployed and are senior citizens prompted the committee to take a stand.

“We, as a committee, are happy that our efforts to get service delivery for our people have finally materialised and we no longer have to worry about bad weather conditions,” says Masemola.

The rest of the houses in the area will be refurbished in January.

Resident Joy Mkwanazi says she appreciates the fact that her home will no longer experience water leaks every time it rains.

“We would stress every time it rained because we had to move furniture around so it didn’t get damaged by the water.

“Now we can also enjoy the rain and not worry about our homes flooding,” says Mkwanazi.
