DA march against crime and drug abuse

Tsakane – The Tsakane DA Constituency and community members marched to the Tsakane Police Station to deliver a memorandum of demands against crime and drug abuse last Saturday.

The march started from the Geluksdal Stadium to the Tsakane Police Station.

Residents are fed up with the escalating crime rate in the area and are concerned that nothing is being done by the police to curb the issue.

“We are alarmed as a community, there have been so many criminal activities in the area which are led by the youths who are abusing drugs,” says Pinky Sehume, a resident.

The DA constituency assembled the march to demand specialised police units to deal with drugs and drug related crimes, increased police visibility around schools, more police raids and the investigation of police officers who are colluding with drug dealers.

“As a political party we want community members and children to exercise their rights of feeling safe in their communities once again. Drugs are killing our children and if we can arrest the people who are supplying drugs on our streets, it will help,” says DA Ward 85 Councillor, Phyllis Masemola.

Community members say they are willing to work with the police in order ensure they live in a safe community.
