Cash-in-transit robbers sought

Etwatwa – Two G4S cash-in-transit guards were robbed at the Engen garage on Eiselen Street in Etwatwa West, on Saturday morning.

According to Etwatwa police spokesperson, Capt Pearl van Staad, the incident took place at about 8am.

“The two guards had gone to the garage to collect cash, when four suspects cornered one guard at gunpoint.

“The suspects were then able to get away with the money bag which had R203 180 in it.

“The bag was later recovered in the Barcelona informal settlement, along Sithole Drive, by patrolling police officers.

“All of the money, however, was gone,” van Staad says.

She adds that the suspects’ whereabouts are unknown.

No one was injured during the incident, but a case of cash-in-transit robbery has been opened at the Etwatwa Police Station.

“We ask for members of the public with any information to contact the station on 011 746 8900 or 10 111.

“Cash-in-transit companies are also urged increase their manpower, especially during the festive season, so that at least two guards can stay in the vehicle while the other two go and collect the money,” van Staad says.
