Springs spokesperson, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says the guards were in the guard room when the incident occurred.
“The guards were approached by about 20 people who somehow managed to make their way onto the premises. The suspects pointed guns at the guards and demanded their cellphones,” says Ramphora.
“Afterwards they went on to open one of the loading trucks on the premises and took out packages of cigarettes, then fled the scene.”
No one was injured during the robbery.
A case of robbery has been opened at the Springs Police Station.
Ramphora says they seek anyone with information to come forward by contacting the station on 011 365 5700/19/20 or calling 10 111.
