Operation Bumper to Bumper sees 18 wanted people behind bars

Kwatsaduza – Eighteen suspects were nabbed by EMPD Public Order Policing Unit members when they embarked on a special operation to hunt down wanted criminals, suspects who have skipped bail and those who failed to make court appearances.

According to EMPD spokesperson, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, this forms part of the EMPD’s Operation Bumper to Bumper, which was introduced by their new chief of police, Bafana Andries Mahlabe, in October.

“As a result of this operation, the suspects where tracked down to their hiding places.

“The special operation went on throughout Tuesday night and Wednesday morning (last week), and the EMPD managed to get 18 suspects on outstanding warrants.

“Three were nabbed for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in connection with cases registered this month at KwaThema, Olifantsfontein and Eden Park police stations. Two female suspects were rounded up on Katlehong SAPS cases registered early this month. Suspects picked up for common assault numbered five with cases laid at Tsakane, Katlehong, Tembisa and Olifantsfontein police stations.” he says.

Furthermore, one arrest each was made for crimes registered at various police stations in Ekurhuleni:

n assault and robbery in Alberton

n robbery in April 2015 in Tembisa

n car theft at Tembisa South SAPS

n theft and crimen injuria in Eden Park

n theft in June 2015 case in Katlehong

n possession of stolen property in March 2015 in Eden Park

n interference in police duties this month in Kempton Park

n failure to produce proof of identification this month in Kempton Park.
