KwaThema boxer to fight

KwaThema - Xolani Mvubu, a boxer from the Geo Maroon Boxing Cub, will be fighting in the South African (SA) title elimination rounds in East London on Friday.

The boxer, who weighs 69,85kg, will be fighting against East London local, Simphiwe Lusizi, in the junior middle weight division.

Mvubu says he has done his preparation and training for the fight and it’s now about him implementing his strategy in the ring.

“I’ve been told that my opponent is a brilliant boxer, but that doesn’t scare me at all. I trust that my coach and I have done the very best to ensure a win,” he says.

The southpaw (left-handed) boxer believes the war begins at the gym and at home, with what he eats and does to maintain his stamina and a healthy body.

“When you go into the ring nothing matters but how brave you are and how much stamina you have to keep on fighting no matter how many punches hit you,” says Mvubu.

“So eating healthy and sticking to a strict fitness regime will ensure that you sustain yourself in the ring,” he adds.

Mvubu’s coach, Themba Zulu, has no doubt that his boxer will make it through to the SA title and says Mvubu has proved to him that he can push himself in the gym and in the ring.

“I know when a boxer is hungry for success, I see it in the way he trains and commits himself in the ring,” says Zulu.
