Official opening of the Duduza Fire Station.

Duduza - The Mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Clr Mondli Gungubele, officially open the new Duduza Fire Station today (Thursday).

Present to witness this moment were various government officials, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services, Disaster and Emergency Services and the community.

Gungubele says the 1 300 square meter facility, which cost the municipality R41-million, will serve a population of around 87 359 people from wards 98 and 87, as well as portions of 88 and 84.

During the construction of this project, 27 job opportunities were created for local people.

He adds that this new facility will also serve as a back-up to neighbouring fire stations such as Tsakane and Nigel.

The community members were encouraged, by government officials, to ensure that the station and its vehicle are not vandalised.

“We are very happy as we now know where we can get urgent assistance in our times of trouble.

“The station is also very beautiful,” says resident Rose Mndaweni.
