Charity Mile raises R100k for Khangezile

KwaThema – Khangezile Primary After Care Centre won R100 000 towards their centre at the Peermont Emperors Palace Charity Mile held at the Turffontein Racecourse on Saturday.

Presenter Bob Yearham was paired with Khangezile Primary After Care Centre and ML Jet, a racing horse, for the charity race.

ML Jet came in second securing the R100 000 prize for the Khangezile After Care Centre.

The Khangezile After Care Centre caters for 100 children including learners from the nearby Masimini Primary School.

“We are very happy about the amount we won, it will really assist with taking care of the children who need help,” says school principal, George Skaka.

The centre ensures that children receive a meal before going home and assists with their homework and extramural activities.

Skaka says the centre was started after they learnt there are many children who come from disadvantaged families and that some were orphaned at a very young age.

Coordinator of the Khangezile After Care Centre, Nomhle Ndlebe, says the learners who benefit from the centre are mostly orphans and children who come from disadvantages areas in the community.

“We make sure that they have a balanced meal every day, some even bring lunchboxes to take home and twice a year we issue the children with food parcels to take home to assist their families,” says Ndlebe.
