Free internet for taxi commuters

Kwatsaduza -The Springs Main Taxi Rank has free Wi-fi that also runs up to the Top Centre Taxi Rank, so commuters who are using both taxi ranks are able to access free internet while visiting the taxi ranks.

This initiative was brought to commuters by Pandacom and the Top 6 Taxi Management in the hopes of improving the taxi industry and its service to commuters.

The Spings Taxi Rank is one of many taxi ranks across the country that will benefit from the partnership.

The project is still in its early stages with more installations to be made at other taxi ranks.

Taxi drivers and commuters are excited about the development, saying it will help them keep in touch with people and what’s happening around the country and world.

Sam Rapetsoa (37), a taxi driver at the Springs Taxi Rank, says since the Wi-Fi was installed he hardly gets bored because he visits his favourite websites and is able to chat with his friends and family on a more regular basis.

“Most people didn’t know what Wi-Fi is, and with the Wi-Fi connection accessible to them, they are keen to learn and use it,” he says.

Nomsa Mlangeni (37) says she owns a smartphone but has never used Wi-Fi before.

She explains she only started using it recently at the taxi rank after taxi drivers told her about it and showed her how to access it.

“I come to the taxi rank everyday to get to and from work and sometimes we wait in queues or wait for passengers, so now during that time I’m able to browse the internet,” says Mlangeni.

She adds that Wi-Fi in public places also spares people the trouble of going to internet cafés to send an email, whereas they can connect to the Wi-Fi and be able to send and receive emails.
