Young entrepreneurs educated about business

KwaThema - Young entrepreneurs from KwaThema were invited to be a part of the Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) workshop on Tuesday at the KwaThema Community Hall.

The workshop was led by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) to empower and educate aspiring entrepreneurs about the importance of drafting a professional business plan and registering a company.

Nondumiso Mkhatshwa, from the KwaThema Local Youth Office, says they organised the workshop because many aspiring entrepreneurs enquire about registering businesses and formatting business plans.

“Most of the youth struggle with the fundamental steps of starting a business and that is the most crucial part of any organisation, and that is why we organised this workshop so NYDA officials may guide them on how to get it right,” says Mkhatshwa.

She adds that in many cases, young entrepreneurs are denied grants to start their businesses because they do not have detailed business plans and correct documentation.

NYDA official Alfred Mogale, from the Maponya branch, spoke on many programmes and grants offered by the NYDA and the importance of young people starting their own businesses to curb the rise of unemployment and poverty in their community.

“Young people across South Africa are being offered opportunities and it is imperative that they make use of these,” says Mogale.

Having a great business idea without the knowledge of implementing the idea is as good as not having one, he adds.

The NYDA offers youth mentorship programmes, scholarships, skills development, job preparedness and marketing linkage.
