Disaster strikes at new fire station

KwaThema - Part of the roof at the new KwaThema Fire Station, which is being built at the corner of Kgaswane and Moshoeshoe streets, has been destroyed.

This follows the strong winds that hit the area late on Saturday afternoon.

According to community liaison officer on site, Meriam Mohono, only a certain portion of the roof collapsed over the weekend.

“This was due to the strong winds that took place at about 4pm, after the workers had finished for the day.

“We are currently waiting for the people who are in charge of the erection of the roof, to come back and fix it.

“Work is still continuing on site as usual,” she says.

Deputy chairperson of the Margaret Gazo branch of the African National Congress Women’s League (ward 78), Zanele Nyakale, says it is sad that work has been slightly set back by this natural disaster.

They are happy, however, that all the employees had already left when the incident occurred and that no one was injured.
