Local schools bags R30 000

KwaThema - Khangezile Primary School will represent the Gauteng province in an environmental competition next year.

This comes after the school took first place in the MmaTshepo Khumbane (MTK) Awards, an environmental competition which they entered into around June this year.

According to the school principal, George Skaka, the competition is about conservation of the environment.

Over 100 schools were assessed in the beginning of the contest, after which there were two elimination rounds.

The school took top honours in the third round.

“During the competition, the school was assessed on how we use natural resources and how we take care of the environment.

“After three rounds, we placed first in the ‘Junior Land Care’ category, within the agricultural project.

“From here, the school will represent Gauteng at the national level to be held in Bloemfontein next year,” says Skaka

The school was awarded with a trophy, a certificate and R30 000 prize money.

Skaka adds that they are very excited as they were not expecting to win.

He thanks the teachers, children and the environmental committee members for all the great work they have done.
