Increase of hijackings in Duduza

Duduza – The police would like the community to be aware of an increase in hijackings in the area.

According to Duduza police spokesperson, WO Imtiaz Yakub Rasool, there has been a steady increase in reported cases of hijacking of motor vehicles in recent weeks.

“We as the police are doing everything in our power to combat and prevent crime, but we cannot be everywhere all the time.

“The hijackers are operating in groups of three to four males, are armed with hand guns and are posing as people asking for directions.

“Whilst one suspect distracts the driver, the others approaches unnoticed and gets into the vehicle of the unsuspecting driver,” he says.

Rasool adds that drivers need to be vigilant and observant when leaving and returning home as victims are targeted when they get out of their vehicles to close their gates.

“The vehicles targeted are those generally used for taxi operations and high-end performance vehicles.

“We urge the community to be vigilant and alert, and to report all suspicious activity.

“Help us to keep you safe,” Rasool says.
