UPDATE: Six arrested for public violence in protest
Everest – A community member was killed following Monday’s violent protest in the Gugulethu Everest informal settlement.
EMPD spokesperson Clifford Shongwe says the community member, who was allegedly shot, was reported dead on Monday evening.
“Two motor vehicles (one a private car and the other a truck) were also damaged in an attack that night, though the drivers were unharmed,” he says.
Shongwe says officials are still keeping an eye on the situation and that six people were arrested for public violence.
The protest erupted after two men attacked a 65-year-old woman and killed her son (26) in the early hours of Monday morning.
