Jazz Picnic celebrates 10 years
KwaThema - Dovola and Friends presents its 10th Jazz Picnic, which will be hosted at the beginning of next year.
Organisers are encouraging SMMEs that would like to sell goods at the event to come forward, as 2016’s picnic will have stalls where people can support local businesses.
“We started this at the Indaba Tree years ago because of the community’s love of jazz and the site for its history.
“This was our way of meeting to enjoy ourselves as families at the beginning of each year and since then, it has grown over the years.
“Due to the renovations that were being done at the site, we have moved the event to the KwaThema Stadium,” says founder Dovola Mabena.
He says they want people to be able to have an enjoyable time closer to home where they can also be safe.
The picnic will take place on January 1.
“This day is all about family time, where we have a live band and entertainment for the children, among other things.
“Through this we are driving revitalisation in township businesses.
“This is our way of giving back to our communities,” says one of the organisers, Mthuthuzeli Ntalo.
