Jail time for man who raped his stepdaughter

Kwatsaduza - A 31-year-old man from Duduza was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment after he was found guilty of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter.

Springs police spokesman Capt Johannes Ramphora says the man, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, was sentenced in the Nigel Court last Wednesday.

Ramphora says the man raped the girl in a veld near Duduza on February 8 after pointing a gun at her.

As the two made their way home, the child ran to a community member and told them what happened.

The man was later arrested by the Tsakane SAPS.

The court declared him unfit to possess a firearm and also recommended that his name be placed on the National Registry for Sexual Offenders.

He has started serving his sentence at Modderbee Prison.

“We hope this sentence will send a message to other rapists,” says Ramphora.
