Extension 10 to be electrified

Tsakane – Langaville Extension 10 residents will no longer experience dark nights.

The project to install electricity in 1 610 shacks in the area started five months ago and will be completed at the end of this month.

Community liaison officer for the electrification project, Tebogo Tsimo, says they are currently installing meters in homes, after which there won’t be much work left to be done.

“The street lights are up and the meters are being installed; with this project we wanted the whole area to be electrified at once, so we don’t have to come back to the area,” he says.

Sixty community members were employed as part of the project.

Resident Mbuso Zulu (33) says he is happy that the community will have electricity soon and that they will no longer have to buy candles and paraffin.

“Now that we going to have electricity, there won’t be any shack fires and the crime rate will hopefully decrease,” he adds Zulu.

Ward councillor Mtumeleni Ndita says the project has been a success and the community of Extension 10 have been supportive throughout the electrification project.

“We are busy with the residents’ electricity accounts, so they will be able to buy electricity after the free electricity they receive is exhausted,” he explains.
