Get vehicles tested for free

For the majority of people residing in Ekurhuleni, public transport is the only means of getting from one point to the other.

The City of Ekurhuleni is therefore rolling out a robust plan of action to celebrate and highlight the importance of having safe and reliable transport services throughout October, known as Transport Month.

Free vehicle testing will be available during the month of October on all public transport vehicles and trucks.

All public transport vehicles with a gross vehicle mass of 3 500kg and more can be tested for free from October 1 to 30.

Testing is done between 8.30am and 2.30pm week days, except for Wednesdays which is from 9.30am to 2.30pm.

No prior booking is needed.

The testing stations are:

  • Alberton – Bosworth Street, Alrode
  • Brakpan – 12 Short Street, Vulcania
  • Boksburg – Reservoir Street
  • Wadeville – Osborn Road
  • Kempton Park – H Lewis Road, Spartan
  • Nigel – Dam Street, Vosterkroon
  • Springs – Diesel Road, New Era

In breaking the bounds of the transport sector, which is a male-dominated field, the city will acknowledge and honour Ekurhuleni women involved in transport through an award ceremony to be held on Saturday at the Kempton Park Town Hall.

The high number of deaths on the country’s road continues to be a concern for government and various organisations.

In the wake of recent fatal taxi industry unrest, the interdenominational prayer conference is anticipated to address critical issues affecting public transport operators and commuters.

To conclude the month-long Transport Month celebrations, residents in the Ramaphosa informal settlement will see the long awaited new Ramaphosa Taxi Rank being officially opened on October 30.

The Addie is awaiting more information from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Munuicipality, see the website for updates if available.
