Zamani Primary School celebrates Heritage Day

KwaThema - Zamani Primary School learners celebrated Heritage Day by participating in various educational activities.

The purpose of the celebration was to educate the learners about the day and its meaning.

The learners dressed up in different, vibrant cultural attire, to show off the various traditions of the country.

They also enjoyed the festivities, as they were able to see the attire worn by different ethnic groups, the kind of music they sing or listen to and they could hear how they speak.

To add to the celebrations, the children took part in a dance show to demonstrate the various cultural dances.

“As a school, we decided that it would be a great learning experience if all our learners, from Grades R to Seven, dressed up for Heritage Day,” says Sibilon Thabethe, Grade Six and Seven teacher .

“Through this, we were able to promote a culture where our children can know a bit more about who they are and where they come from.

“We want our children to be proud of their heritage and who they are, because, at times, we find that some of them tend to be shy about their culture, due to the way they are treated by other children or adults in their community.”

Some of the staff ended the celebration by addressing the learners on the significance of the day and why, as young people, they should be proud of their traditions.
