Kuso hosts wellness day

KwaThema - To celebrate Heritage Day, the Kutloano Social Organisation (KUSO) hosted a fun walk and wellness day at the KwaThema Sports Complex, recently.

The 10km walk, which started from the sports complex and went around KwaThema, ending at the sports complex, where a session of aerobics and medical check-ups took place.

According to Stephen Moerane (55), from KUSO, the purpose of the day was to raise awareness of wellness and leading a healthy lifestyle as community members.

He says people tend to wait until they are faced with chronic diseases before they take the initiative to exercise and eat healthily, while good health is possible if people change their lifestyle.

“The walk was meant to encourage community members, young and old, to exercise, even to just walk around their neighbourhoods as a form of keeping fit,” says Moerane.

Participants in the walk had an opportunity to undergo a free medical check by the doctors and nurses who were on site.

Community member Palesa Mabuya (45), explained the importance of people taking care of their body from an early age and eating correctly, because those are the main methods of preventing chronic diseases, such as high blood pressure.

“We need to be a community that promotes wellness and health, so our children can learn to be active as early as possible,” she says.

The day ended with a heritage celebration, where community members enjoyed a braai and were entertained with music.
