Cancer awareness walk coming soon

Geluksdal – The Geluksdal Soul Family Cancer Support Group will host their annual Cancer Awareness Walk on October 31.

The walk will start at 8am from the Geluksdal Stadium and is expected to take about two hours.

“After the walk, we will be stationed at the stadium for the rest of the day where there will be lots to see and do,” says secretary of the organisation, Debby Keyser.

“There will be different stalls and plenty of entertainment which will include guys from the East Rand Motor Show who will be showing off their cars and we will have bikers.

“People will also see drum majorettes, a drum line, a professional hip-hop dance crew, music, soccer games, inflatables to keep the children entertained and there will be lots to drink and eat.”

The South African National Blood Services plans to host a blood drive on the day and locals are urged to bring along their ID book if they wish to donate blood.

In addition, there will be a health care worker present to do free blood pressure and sugar tests while the Cancer Association of South Africa will have a mobile unit, which will conduct cancer screening.
