Xolani Tsotesti, self-made entrepreneur

Kwatsaduza - A successful entrepreneur takes risks, is ambitious and hungry for success, says Xolani Tsotetsi (33), who runs his own shisanyama, or eatery that sells braai meat.

Tsotetsi, who hails from Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal and now runs his own business in Springs, confesses that it wasn’t easy to start up as he had to save up money before even starting his business.

“I believe that as a person when you are disciplined and focused you can achieve anything,” says Tsotetsi.

Tsotetsi says he is a born entrepreneur and that from a young age he traded to make extra money.

“I was taught from a young age that you have to work for everything that you want, and I’m thankful that my parents instilled that notion in me,” says Tsotetsi.

He has no formal training in business, just what experience has taught him about saving and budgeting.

Tsotetsi encourages young people to complete their formal training because as you grow in business there are new things that you come across and having an educational background may prove very helpful.

“Everything I know about running an eatery is self taught but going back to school is part of my future plans,” he says.

Tsotetsi adds that young entrepreneurs that aspire to be great in business must start at an early age in order to understand and gain money handling skills.
