Senior citizens are off to nationals

KwaThema - Thirty-five senior citizens from the KwaThema Old Age Centre will be going to the Active Aging Games, in the Northern Cape, in October, to represent the Gauteng region.

The sports team participated at the provincial games last Friday, in the Vaal Triangle, representing Ekurhuleni in different sporting codes, such as ball relay, ball passing and kick, and the 100m flat race.

According to the coach, Themba Skosana (36), this is their biggest group they are taking to the nationals so far, and he is confident of the ability of his team members.

“This is not the first time that we have reached the nationals in this competition, but we are aiming to receive a substantial number of gold medals this year, so we are really concentrating on training,” he says.

The resident team will be going to the nationals for the third time this year.

Skosana adds that sport is very important in the lives of the elderly, because it keeps their bodies active and healthy, while they are participating in activities they enjoy.
